Spending your lifetime eating too much sugar can form wrinkles in your skin. In this article we will discuss how wrinkles are formed and how can you eat right and keep a beautiful skin.
Glycation is at blame of forming wrinkles. It is a natural process in which sugar in your blood directly (non enzymatic) binds to proteins to form harmful new molecules called Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs). Glycation can occur outside the body , and AGEs are typically formed when sugar is heated (cooked) with proteins or fats, they are then ingested and absorbed by the body.
Browning reactions are evidence of pre-formed glycations, and sugars are added to products like french fries and bakes to enhance browning.
Many products contain AGEs like those with significant browning, or with directly added AGEs as flavors or colorants. Some of foods with very high exogenous AGEs are Donuts, barbecued meats, cakes and dark colored soda pop, just to name a few.
The aging process starts at about age of 35 and increase rapidly after that, according to a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology. Skin ( and blood arteries) aging occurs when AGEs hit Collagen and Elastin protein fibers that keep skin (and arteries) firm
and elastic. Once damaged, springy and resilient collagen and elastin become dry and brittle, leading to wrinkles and sagging.
Collagen in your skin is present in three types Collagen type-I, Collagen type-II, ANDCollagen type-III with type-III being the most stable and longest lasting, another factor in how resistant skin is to wrinkling. Glycation transforms type III collagen into type I, which is more […]
Nine out of ten new businesses fail within their first year. This is an alarming statistic that may in fact be more of a myth than truth. However, recent data suggests the same trend just not as extreme. According to Brian Headd and data from the U.S. Census, a more realistic figure suggests that 62% of businesses close within the first six years of operation (Headd 2). This raises the question of: What makes a successful business? By analyzing and dissecting the intricacies of Lincoln Electric’s consistently stellar performance as well as paying close attention to several interesting financial pitfalls an answer can be found.
Value in the Individual
An organization at its core is made up of individuals and equipment. Now which of these has the most influence over the success of that organization? Most emphasis must be placed on the individual because he is the one that can be creative, motivated, skilled, efficient, and responsive. The proper function of management is to draw out these characteristics and encourage their growth in a productive setting. A large portion of Lincoln Electric’s (LE) success can be attributed to this unique and effective management style which ultimately leads to a competitive advantage. No matter the economies of scale a huge corporation such as GE can offer, the increased productivity level of a properly motivated individual production worker can easily compensate for it. This management style is further fostered through a combination of structural, strategic, and cultural norms within LE.
Structurally, Lincoln Electric aims […]
The Study of Doubles in Poe’s Works
An important and innovative re-interpreter of the Gothic in the literary world was Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) who asserted ‘that terror is not of Germany, but of the soul’. His stature as a major figure in world literature is primarily based on his highly acclaimed short stories, poems, and critical theories, which established an influential rationale for the short form in both poetry and fiction. Poe is also famous for his Gothic style of writing. Fisher affirms that: “Few would hazard a challenge to long-standing opinion that Poe was a master of the Gothic horror tale, although many might not as readily be aware that he did not invent Gothic fiction” (p.72). Indeed Poe turned the Gothic fiction of the eighteenth-century to the internal cries and desires of human being. Aside from a common theoretical basis, there is a psychological intensity that is characteristic of Poe’s writings, especially the tales of horror that comprise his best and best-known works.
A significant element of Gothic genre is the theme of double. In Gothic (1996), Fred Botting writes that “at the end of nineteenth century familiar Gothic figures-the double and the vampire-reemerged in new shapes with a different intensity and anxious investments as objects of terror”(p.135). It seems so terrible when one looks at everywhere and sees his own image and likeness. The presence of the double, thus, could be interpreted as an explanation for the alienation of human being in the modern world. Botting expresses that “the loss of human identity and the alienation of self from both […]
Why do people study new languages?
For many of us, it’s a career move. Gaining facility in a new vernacular simply allows us to expand our horizon, opening up doors that aren’t available to just anybody else. This is especially important if you’re traveling to a new country in order to further your career prospects. Going to Germany and not learning the local tongue is akin to snuffing out any chance you have of building a meaningful career.
Even when you’re not angling after an international career, there are plenty of local opportunities for individuals who gain facility in a second language. Learning English, for one, is a particularly valuable skill in many countries both in Asia and Europe, where you can serve as a translator, a language instructor, a professional consultant or any other sort of specialized job.
Many companies with international clients would love to have an employee on board who can speak a foreign tongue fluently, immediately putting you in a position of potentially high value to the organization. Given the choice between two equal job candidates, after all, would you go for someone with skill in another language or one without?
Learning A Language
While the benefits of gaining facility in a second language certainly seem tempting, the work going there is frequently not as attractive. Mastery of a new language, after all, will require you to invest plenty of energy and time. Whether you’re taking a class or studying with the help of a language software, the path is similar: you’ll have to bust your ass to get results. For that reason, […]
